04 Jan 2019

The new year can be a time of evaluation, of looking back. It can also be an exciting opportunity to start something new, or to build on existing skills to improve ourselves. If this new year has you thinking about a new professional challenge, our MasterClasses might be a good place to start. We offer MasterClasses within all of our Academies, across Parkinson’s, dementia and multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as now providing speciality courses crossing conditions such as palliative care and neuropharmacy. This Spring could be the perfect opportunity to deepen your understanding and expand your expertise around MS through our Foundation MasterClass. A two-module residential course, the Foundation follows our signature blend of interactive learning and a core application of knowledge into practice, honed over 16 years of educational provision. This year, you could advance your skills and expertise in MS in a meaningful way through a learning experience that extends beyond the ‘classroom’ and will directly impact your professional practice.[caption id="attachment_3707" align="alignright" width="397"] Prof Gavin Giovannoni, Academic Director[/caption]Our array of inspirational speakers will take you on a journey through clinical discussions across diagnosis, management of relapse, use of disease-modifying treatments, and the latest in research such as use of CSF and the debate around whether MS is really ‘just one condition’.Far from clinical practice in a vacuum, our Faculty, all leading practitioners in their fields, will also give you the bigger picture: how to establish an optimal MS service, how to source and use data, the current NHS structures and the involvement of specialist roles such as neuropharmacy will also feature in this jam-packed course. The Neurology Academy’s ethos since its inception has been to equip professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to change the lived experience of people with MS. Module 1 therefore includes the mandate – and the support through a designated mentor – to put your new knowledge into practice and use it to effect change in your locality through an audit or service development project of your choice. You will be given the opportunity to share your experience and findings with your peers in Module 2 held in the Autumn.[caption id="attachment_3701" align="alignleft" width="285"] Dr Basil Ridha presents his project at MasterClass 4.2[/caption]This year, we want to give you the knowledge, tools, mentorship and a network of like-minded peers. We want to equip you to increase in confidence, ability and passion, so that you can be part of the drive to deliver optimal care and support for people living with MS.Is this the challenge you are looking for this year? If so, we would love to see you at the Foundation MasterClass in March – and welcome you to our growing community of people dedicated to improving services and experiences for people affected by MS.→ More information about our MS Foundation MasterClass
