Setting the scene for how people from a South Asian background may relate to dementia, Abdul discusses cultural expectations, family responsibilities and other barriers to health seeking. He also sets out the importance of cultural competency in healthcare professionals both in tailoring cognitive assessments and inproviding relevant support to and understanding of people with dementia from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
