Prof Iracema Leroi, founder of Dementia Academy and lead faculty in delivering adapted dementia education for Bangladesh, the International Dementia Academy Bangladesh (IDAB), introduces psychiatrist Dr Shariah Faruque as he discusses the challenges in providing good quality dementia care across Bangladesh.

Reflecting on the barriers created by cultural understanding of dementia, as well as the importance of working within existing healthcare structures and alongside trusted health advisors within village settings, Shariah provides insight into the importance of flexible thinking and resourceful action when tailoring dementia services to local demographics.
