Shobha Nair

Clinical nurse specialist in Uro-neurology
University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

I am a clinical nurse specialist in Uro-neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, UCLH, where I work within a specialist consultant and nurse-led service supporting patients with complex bladder and bowel dysfunction associated with neurological conditions.

My clinical interests include neurogenic bladder management, Clean Intermittent Self-Catheterisation (CISC), bladder and bowel care, flexible cystoscopy and intravesical Botox, tibial nerve stimulation and sacral neuromodulation. I am particularly passionate about supporting patients to develop confidence and independence in managing their bladder and bowel symptoms, while providing individualised education and practical support.

Alongside my clinical role, I have a strong interest in nursing leadership, education and service development, with my academic work focusing on factors influencing adherence to Clean Intermittent Self-Catheterisation in adults with neurogenic bladder.

I am committed to developing nurse-led services, improving patient pathways and sharing knowledge within uro-neurology. I am particularly interested in the role of education, communication and evidence-based nursing practice in improving patient outcomes and quality of life. I have had the privilege of being a speaker at the national and international platforms like EAUN and INUS.

I am delighted to be part of the Uro Neurology Academy and look forward to learning from colleagues across the specialty, sharing clinical experiences and contributing to the continued development of uro-neurological nursing practice.
