Derek has worked as a hospital pharmacist in England and Australia for over 30 years and has worked as a neurology specialist pharmacist for the last 5 years. His main focus in neurology is MS and neuromuscular. Derek is an active non medical prescriber. He prescribes long stay intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) and the intravenous treatments in neuroinflammatory conditions. He oversees neurology homecare and helps in ad hoc prescribing of various treatments. He is responsible for upkeeping intrathecal registers (nusinersen) and training of pharmacy staff as well as risdiplam prescribing and monitoring. Derek also assists prescribing of Sativex used in MS.

In the past he has had experience in surgery, haematology and gastroenterology.
