Dr Carmel Curtis
Dr Carmel Curtis is a Consultant in Clinical Microbiology and Virology with extensive experience in infection control, laboratory stewardship, and pathology leadership. She currently serves as the Chief of Division at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; she was previously both the clinical lead for Infection Sciences and Clinical Director for Pathology.
Previously, Dr Curtis was Consultant Microbiologist at University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, leading infection management at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery for 10 years. During this time, she developed an interest in neurosurgical infections and in urinary tract infections in patients with neurogenic bladders.
Dr Curtis has lectured at University College London, examined for the Royal College of Pathologists, and has a PhD from the University of Cambridge in pharmacology. She has published on nosocomial infections, hospital-acquired COVID-19, and urinary tract infection prevention.
