Gemma Maxwell is a consultant neurologist based in South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust. She studied medicine in Newcastle and stayed in the North East in her medical and neurology jobs. She has a specialist interest in both multiple sclerosis and neuro-ophthalmology, and is a PI for an interventional study in idiopathic intracranial hypertension and is involved in observational studies in MS. Another interest is medical education and she is curriculum year lead for the University of Sunderland medical school, where she tries her hardest to reduce the prevalence of neurophobia in the next generation of doctors.
