Dr Joe Guadagno

Consultant neurologist and honorary clinical lecturer

Following undergraduate medical training at Glasgow University, including a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience, Joe undertook Neurology training in Royal Perth Hospital, Australia initially, returning to the UK to obtain a PhD from Cambridge University, looking into brain metabolism and blood flow changes in ischaemia using novel MRI and PET imaging techniques. Joe completed clinical Neurology training in Newcastle then obtained a Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship at the VU Medical centre Amsterdam under Professors Chris Polman and Fred Barkof. He became a Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Clinical Lecturer with a special interest in M.S. at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle in December 2009 where he is involved in numerous MS trials and developing his own research interests in MS. Joe is currently Head of the Neurology Department at the RVI.
