Dr John-Paul trained is a medical doctor at the School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (SMS-KNUST) and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, obtaining a Fellowship with the West African College of Physicians.

Dr John-Paul is a Fogarty Global Health Fellow and he currently serves as Head of Psychiatry at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, as well as a part-time Lecturer at the SMS-KNUST. He is investigating the relationship between delirium (acute confusion which is common among hospitalized older adults) and dementia in sub-Saharan Africa. He also leads a multidisciplinary memory clinic in Kumasi-Ghana.
