Dr Laz received his medical school training at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he graduated with the Medical Students' Prize in 2008. He undertook his postgraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, United States, where he obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy and Management and a Graduate Certificate in Global Health with distinctions and numerous prizes.

Thereafter, he joined the Global Fund Malaria project in Nigeria. Since then, Laz has played key roles in multiple health development projects in West Africa, providing expertise in health systems strengthening, health policy advocacy, health financing, cancer control, health communications as well as project monitoring and evaluation. His job experiences cut across malaria and HIV prevention, immunisation, family planning, sexual reproductive health and rights, and maternal and child health programmes in public and private health, research and development organisations.

Laz is a physician and public health management specialist. He founded TalkHealth9ja, using media to raise health literacy in Nigeria. He also leads health systems strengthening advocacy through the Make Our Hospital Work Campaign. Through the Sub-Sahara Africa Brain Health Initiative (SSABHI), which he co-founded, Laz is championing public education on brain health issues with the aim of supporting patient navigation, promoting quality care and eliminating stigma.
