Dr Lucia Ricciardi

Senior lecturer in neurology & consultant neurologist
City St George’s, University of London

Dr Lucia Ricciardi is a Senior Lecturer in Neurology at City St George’s, University of London and a Consultant Neurologist at St George’s University Hospital London. She is a member of the Advanced Movement Disorders Therapies Team and leads the holistic care clinic for Parkinson’s disease.

She graduated in Medicine in Italy before completing a PhD in Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychopharmacology with applications in neurorehabilitation, followed by a clinical research fellowship in Movement Disorders at University College London.

Her work focuses on the assessment and management of non-motor symptoms in people with movement disorders—particularly Parkinson’s disease and functional neurological disorders—with a special interest in neuropsychiatric symptoms and body–mind interactions. A central component of her research is the integration of multimodal physiomarkers through advanced methodologies that simultaneously capture autonomic, neural, and behavioral data. This multimodal approach aims to uncover the mechanisms driving complex non-motor symptoms and to evaluate their response to interventions such as invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation (including deep brain stimulation and vagus nerve stimulation) as well as psychological therapies like mindfulness-based interventions.

She has served as Principal Investigator on major awards, including a Medical Research Council research grant, and she is currently a UKRI Future Leader Fellow.
