Joseph Candelario-Mckeown is an advanced nurse practitioner and lead specialist nurse in Deep Brain Stimulation for 18 years at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His academic achievement includes a BSc in Nursing from Central Luzon Doctors’ Hospital – School of Nursing in the Philippines and an MSc in Advanced Nurse Practice with distinction at City University London. Joseph has a special interest in exploring patient expectations in DBS treatment. Joseph advocates for nurse specialist to develop their roles as advanced practitioners. He was a DBS nurse association (DBSNA) chair for 3 years between 2021-2023. He published the Standards of Practice and Competency Framework for DBS nurse specialist in 2020, which was ratified by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). He has collaborated on a number of published scientific papers. Also, he peer-reviewed scientific papers for publication.
