Sexual health in MS: Ageing, comorbidities, and polypharmacy
Objectives:
- Describe the prevalence and impact of sexual dysfunction in people with MS, and understand its effects on quality of life, relationships and wellbeing.
- Recognise how ageing influences sexual health in MS, including the effects of menopause, hormonal change, erectile dysfunction and age-related comorbidities.
- Identify common comorbidities associated with sexual dysfunction, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, anxiety, bladder and bowel dysfunction.
- Understand the impact of polypharmacy and medication side effects on sexual function.
- Develop confidence in initiating conversations about sexual health.
- Identify management strategies and referral pathways, including medication review, symptom management, psychological support, pelvic health services and specialist sexual health support.
