Dr. Lucy McKay is a UK-trained doctor and CEO of Medics for Rare Disease. Growing up in a rare disease family, she witnessed first-hand the challenges patients face, including the evolution of a patient group that began in her own family home.

She studied Human Genetics at The University of Nottingham before going on to complete her medical degree at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2010. During her training, Lucy recognised that gaps in medical education were contributing significantly to prolonged diagnostic journeys and poor patient experiences - a realisation that shaped her career direction.

In addition to her leadership at Medics for Rare Disease, Lucy serves as a Commissioner for the RDI Lancet Commission on Rare Diseases and is a member of the UK Government’s Department of Health & Social Care Rare Diseases Framework Forum.

Lucy combines her unique lived experience and medical training to improve outcomes for people living with rare diseases, with a strong focus on shaping a Rare Aware medical workforce through education and training.
