Dr Priya Shanmugarajah is a consultant neurologist with specialist interest in neuromuscular disorders at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She is also Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Leeds Institute of Medical Research, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health. Dr Shanmugarajah completed medical school at University of Leeds and speciality training in neurology with the Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery. She joined Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a substantive consultant in 2020. She now, leads the neuromuscular service in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She has been instrumental in the expansion and development of the neuromuscular service in Leeds. Dr Shanmugarajah is the principal investigator for clinical trials in spinal muscular atrophy and myasthenia gravis at LTHT. She runs the specialist myasthenia gravis service and neuromuscular disorder specialist clinic with good links to respiratory and cardiology team for the complex neuromuscular patients. She has close links with paediatric team and has supported transition patients on compassionate use of genetic therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. She works collaboratively with national network organisation (including NorthStar, MDUK and SMA REACH), Yorkshire Neuromuscular network and patient support groups to ensure patients receives high quality care in line with recommended standard of care. She enjoys teaching.
