Prof Alex Sinclair

Consultant neurologist & professor of neurology

Dr Sinclair is consultant neurologist at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust where she founded and led the headache service. She is Professor of Neurology at the University of Birmingham and leads the Translational Brain Science Research Group. She is the Chair of The British Association for the Study of Headache.

Qualifying in medicine in 2000 with post-graduate training in neurology, Dr Sinclair became a Neurology Consultant in 2012. Her clinical and academic interest focus on headache and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). Her translational research portfolio seeks to derive clinically relevant evidence to enable direct patient benefit and has led guidelines to inform clinical practice. She has run international and UK trials (Phase 2 and 3) as chief investigator raising the funding, designing and leading the trials. To date, Dr Sinclair has been awarded over £22million in personal grant funding in relation to her academic research from organisations such the Medical Research Council, the National Institute for Heath & Care Research, the Jules Thorne Charitable Trust, Dept of Defence USA, the Ministry of Defence UK and the UK Space Agency.
