MS specialist nurse

Sarah qualified in 1992 as a Registered General Nurse at Kings College Hospital London and has completed her Diploma in Higher Education (Clinical Nursing) and her BSc (Critical Care). She has worked in various medical specialities including respiratory, hepatology and High Dependency during this time.

She moved to Devon in 2001 to work as a Ward Manager at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for 9 years firstly in general medicine and then neurology and then as a Nurse Tutor for newly qualified staff before working as a Lead Nurse in the private sector with spinal and complex care patients before re-joining the NHS as a Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Nurse in Torbay in January 2022, working with Consultant Neurologist Dr Agne Straukiene.

Her current role includes educating and supporting patients during their diagnosis and ongoing MS journey, advising on, initiating and monitoring disease modifying treatments, liaising with wards and other healthcare professions, running nurse led clinics 3 days a week and conducting home visits. Sarah also works closely with the Planned Infusion Unit and as a result Torbay was the first to initiate Subcutaneous Ocrevus infusions in England in 2024.

Sarah has advised on patient education materials for disease modifying treatments and as a member of the UK MS Specialist Nurses Association (UKNSSNA) Committee, which has input into NICE consultations and other national initiatives associated with MS patients and nurses. She is a member of the RCN Neuroscience Forum and a graduate of the MS Academy and has personal experience of caring for family members with MS.
