MS Academy graduates' projects presented at conferences MS At The Limits and Get Smart
NewsMS Foundation MasterClass pharmacist and nurse specialist duo, Denisse Bongol and Jessica Mensah, who won the project award in 2023 for their improvements to optimise nurse-led patient reviews, had the opportunity to present their work at this year's Multiple Sclerosis At The Limits annual nurse conference as part of the Nicky Ward Able lectures. Jess and Denisse felt presenting their project to the wider audience was really important both personally and professionally.
Their project focused on improving MS nurse follow-up clinics by introducing a pre-appointment checklist through a patient portal. This checklist ensures essential DMT monitoring is addressed in advance, freeing up time for more patient-centred discussions on symptom management and quality-of-life concerns. By proactively addressing these topics, the project aims to reduce follow-up queries, improve patient confidence in appointments and enhance the efficiency of both nursing and pharmacy services. At the Get Smart conference in October, there was an MS Academy session at the end of the first day. Designed by and for nurses, Get Smart is an annual conference that brings together MS specialist nurses from across the UK. As one delegate mentioned:
“The poster session is woven into the fabric of Get Smart now, the sharing of best practice and highlighting innovative work”
