MS Foundation MasterClass 21 project winners announced
Event reports
Congratulations to the graduates from our MS Foundation MasterClass 21! The second module, held in November, brought delegates back together to present the projects they had developed and implemented since attending the first module in May 2025.
The two days also featured a packed programme of expert-led teaching and interactive case discussions, ranging from exploring MS immunopathophysiology and treatment sequencing to complex symptom management across fatigue, pain, cognition and mental health. Sessions also explored advanced MS care, bladder and bowel management, sexual health and multidisciplinary approaches to treatment decision-making.
“This course has been outstanding. The best learning offer I've ever had, to be honest. So much excellent information, applicable across the MDT speakers, obviously, tip top in their fields. It's pretty much been a privilege to attend!”
“I learned so much and networked with wonderful colleagues. I highly recommend attending, as I have taken so much away from the experience as a whole.”
“Improved my confidence and competence as an ST5; my patients will receive better care as a result.”
Delegate feedback
“Excellent organisation, clear and well practiced structure. Well engaged delegates”
Speaker feedback
The intermodule project is an important element of every MS MasterClass, giving healthcare professionals the opportunity to apply their learning directly to their own services. Last week, delegates presented 22 projects, including five joint presentations in a speed dating style format to encourage agile content and discussion. From improving disease modifying therapy (DMT) pathways and safety monitoring, to planning rehabilitation, developing men's and women’s health services, and managing complex symptoms in more advanced disease, the projects demonstrated how education can directly translate into measurable service transformation. Delegates shared their work through poster presentations with a short question and answer session, followed by an anonymous vote from their peers to select the project they felt most deserving of recognition.
This year, two projects were selected as winners and one runner-up.

Joint winner: Innovating men's health in MS: a dedicated clinic model
Maria Antoniou, MS clinical nurse specialist & Abraham Ignacio, MS clinical nurse specialist, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
This winning project addressed the often-overlooked needs of men with MS by establishing a dedicated Men’s Health Clinic at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Designed with a holistic, multidisciplinary approach, the clinic integrates MS care with urology, psychology, sexual health and wellness support. The model offers a blueprint for more inclusive, person-centred MS services.
Joint winner: Next steps with MS: implementing 1:1 nurse-led virtual support for people newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
Sorcha Barlow, MS support and education nurse, MS Ireland
This project introduced virtual, nurse-led 1:1 sessions to support people newly diagnosed with MS, offering education, reassurance and tailored guidance in a safe online space. Early results show strong engagement and improved confidence in self-management, with common discussion themes including fatigue, anxiety and bladder or bowel changes. The model demonstrates a scalable, low-cost way to extend support beyond hospital walls, bridging neurology and community care.

Mariam Sherkawi, neurology occupational therapist, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust
Mariam piloted the use of the PDQ to capture perceived cognitive difficulties in people with MS across attention, memory and organisation domains. The tool empowers occupational therapists to identify cognitive issues more effectively and tailor interventions to individual needs. With appropriate resources and training, it provides a practical, patient-centred method for integrating cognitive screening into everyday rehabilitation practice.
Education with impact
Congratulations to all our delegates for their innovative and timely work in improving MS services, directly influencing and enhancing care for people with MS across the country. It was fantastic to see the breadth and quality of projects presented this year. All project posters are now available to view here on our website. These resources are designed to inspire collaboration and replication, empowering others to implement similar initiatives in their own services.
We have also summarised the all projects in our latest 'Education with impact' report, available below.
