Prof Gavin Giovannoni will be stepping back from his role as Academic Director
NewsIt is with deep regret we announce that Professor Gavin Giovannoni will be stepping back from his role as Academic Director of the MS Academy in March 2021. Gavin has made the decision to step back from a number of roles he currently holds following his very serious accident prior to Christmas, to enable him the time to focus on his own rehabilitation, alongside additionally trying to improve rehabilitation services in MS.
Prof Gavin Giovannoni
Professor of neurology, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry
Sarah Gillett MD of the MS Academy said Gavin has provided exceptional leadership to the Academy, which has now trained over 993 individual neurologists and health care professionals in MS over the four year period he has worked within the programme. His enthusiasm for improving MS care is contagious and he has provided a great springboard for work to continue. Gavin has led the MS Academy from strength to strength to improve standards of MS care across the UK, developing with the Academy a number of educational activities: the original MS Foundation and Advanced MasterClass and more recently MS Basecamp. He has spearheaded the Raising the Bar (RtB) programme to improve MS standards of care with an impressive three year vision for improvement which is well underway.
He will be greatly missed but the MasterClass Faculty are committed to delivering the vision he developed and Dr David Paling will be continuing in his role until we appoint one or two new Academic Directors to work alongside him. If you are interested in this position, please contact Jamie McGregor, Director of Policy, Intelligence and Operations.
