Dr David Nesbitt
Dr David Nesbitt undertook a degree in neuroscience at Edinburgh University before going on to complete his medical training at Newcastle University. After obtaining an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Neurology, he undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, University of Cambridge to obtain his PhD.
David then returned to the North East of England to continue his neurology training and has just obtained his CCT. He aims to take up a consultant neurologist post in the coming months, with a special interest in cognitive neurology.
David’s research uses neuropsychological and neuroimaging techniques to investigate the changes in brain and behaviour seen in normal brain aging, versus those seen in Alzheimer’s disease and a community cohort of 'Cognitively Frail' individuals.
He hopes to further develop local services within the North East that use biomarkers for the early detection of neurodegenerative disease, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, and implement the use of disease modifying therapies once approved within the NHS.
