Lucy Mooney is the Lead Movement Disorder Nurse Specialist for the Advanced Treatment Service for Parkinson’s at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. Lucy is responsible for managing the nursing team who work as part of the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Duodopa Service. Her clinical role includes assessing patients’ suitability for DBS, preparing them for surgery, programming the stimulators and managing the patients’ condition in conjunction with their neurologist following surgery. Lucy also led on establishing the Duodopa service at Southmead. She is involved in assessing patients’ suitability for Duodopa and provides ongoing care and support.
Lucy is the Deputy Director for the MOVE-HIT (Health Integration Team for Parkinson’s and other Movement Disorders), she established the Patient Public Involvement Group for the movement disorder service at Southmead and is President of the Parkinson’s UK Bristol Branch. She has written a number of publications for patients, she lectures on post-registration nursing courses and speaks at various meetings and conferences.
