I qualified in nursing in 2006 as a mature student, having worked in the Bakery before doing my training. As a student nurse I wrote an essay about a lady I met in a nursing home but must admit looking back my essay lacked so much detail. I worked for 3 years in a Geriatric Rehab ward and most patients with Parkinson’s requiring rehabilitation would be admitted to that ward.

I have been a Parkinson’s Nurse since early 2010, I love my job and often it is the small things that make a difference. A skill I hope I have learned is to listen, this enables us to build good relationships with our patients & families but also individually tailor help and advice.

My passion in Parkinson’s is the timely administration in hospital of their time critical medications. Locally we have been running and developing a project since I started in post. We have increased timely administration of Parkinson’s Medications from 41.27% to 76% so far across all wards, but some of our wards are over 90% on time. This recognises the dedication of NHS staff to improving standards of care

I was honoured to be chosen as the Project winner at The Parkinson’s Advanced Masterclass 42 but also to be shortlisted for the Nursing times Awards 2023. As a multidisciplinary team we were honoured to win the “Innovation in practice” award and the overall “Excellence” award at the Parkinson’s Excellence Awards 2023.
