Tim is a trustee for Dystonia UK and serves on the mental health group of the Neurological Alliance. Tim also work with the local alliance to influence the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB), advocating for better integration of neurological and mental health services.

After earning an undergraduate degree in environmental biology at the age of 33, Tim pursued a career as an environmental biologist. Prior to this, Tim worked as a customs officer.

Tim's interests are diverse and include gardening, cycling, walking, and playing the recorder in groups and on early music courses. Tim is also an active member of the Northwest Early Music Forum, serving on its committee.
