Rachel Newby

Rachel Newby is currently a consultant neurologist at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, visiting consultant neurologist at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield. She runs a regional Functional Neurological Disorder clinic in Sheffield.

Rachel’s clinical training was at Leeds and Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, where she undertook a Movement Disorders fellowship. She completed an MD under the supervision of Prof Peter Kempster, Prof Jane Alty, Dr Stuart Jamieson and Prof Stephen Smith, which evaluated the kinematics and psychological profiles of functional and organic dystonia.

Current research interests include developing improved models of care for patients with FND, educational projects for primary care physicians to improve recognition and management of movement disorders, and clinical trials.
