Academy contributes to HSJ roundtable on priorities for neurology

The Neurology Academy was delighted to be involved in a recent Health Service Journal (HSJ) roundtable at the King's Fund in London ensuring high quality care for neurology patientsWe were represented by Professor Gavin Giovannoni from the MS Academy Faculty and Sue Thomas Founder Faculty member who is involved in much of our service development support. The roundtable was held as the NHS is seeing year-on-year increases in the number of patients with a neurological conditions like MS, Parkinson’s and dementia and to provide sustainable services, many of these patients will need to receive at least part of their care from neurologists, care of the elderly physicians and older age psychiatrists. This roundtable chaired by Professor Adrian Williams discussed:
  • What are the issues for neurology patients and the NHS in the current delivery and commissioning of services?
  • How can these be overcome and who needs to take action to make this happen?
  • Will new models of care and new approaches to commissioning, such as accountable care organisations or systems, offer an opportunity to further improve services?
The debate was filmed, and a report and short videos will appear on the HSJ website shortly and we will provide links to this once available. We were delighted to be involved and thank Gavin and Sue for their input on our behalf.
