Advanced Care Planning in dementia round table discussion
Professor Alistair Burns National Clinical Director for Dementia and Professor Bee Wee National Clinical Director for End of Life Care held an NHS England (NHSE) round table discussion with key stakeholders in London at which the Dementia Academy was represented by MasterClass faculty member Sue Thomas.The meeting was organised to look at how we can improve advanced care planning (ACP) for end of life for people affected by dementia. Discussions at the meeting ranged on barriers to effective ACP and included issues like the difficulties that professionals face in starting discussions. NHSE is intending to produce a resource that will support more effective ACP.The Dementia Academy has shared the dementia commissioning pathway toolkit with NHSE and also alerted them to our forthcoming palliative care workshop to contribute to the NHSE call for any relevant resources to be shared to support this work. We will keep MasterClass graduates updated on the progress of this work.
