Neurology Academy team completes the '130K for the 130K' fundraiser by MS Together

Neurology Academy has participated in the '130K for the 130K' fundraiser, organised by the charity MS Together. Our dedicated team surpassed our target of 1600 kilometres, covering an impressive 1671.55 kilometres in May through running, walking, cycling, swimming and skating.

These were some of our highlights:

• Riding a bike for the first time in seven years (Emily S)
• Learning to skate at the seaside (Hannah)
• Cycling in the countryside (Sarah)
• Hiking Goatfell mountain on the Isle of Arran (Johanna)
• Sunset walks on Saturday evenings (Janay)

MS Together is a newly launched UK-based charity focused on providing advice and support to people affected by MS, with a special emphasis on those aged 18-35 living with MS. Although newly launched as a charity, the organisation has been offering support for 4 years, this includes private online support platforms, virtual social events and educational webinars and in-person events. They also offer 1-to-1 support sessions delivered by trained volunteers in Mental Health First Aid for anyone who needs extra support. Ultimately, they want to empower people to share their stories, advocate for themselves and live their best lives, despite their MS.

Ruth Stross, our head of nursing, is a trustee for the charity, she became involved in the work they’re doing in September last year when she was invited by Dr Niraj Mistry and Amy Thompson, to speak at the launch of the charity.

Any money raised in the '130K for the 130K' challenge will help the charity to improve and expand their new services so that they can support even more young adults living with MS.
